Carolyne's Sweet Ride

1982 XJ1100 Yamaha Maxim

BEFORE:: Maxine! My 1982 XJ1100 Yamaha Maxim, AFTER I cleaned and
polished.. She had been sitting in a barn, unridden and unloved, covered
with dirt, dust, cobwebs and bird doo-doo. Only 4762 miles on her. Had the carbs boiled out
and synchronized, the oil changed, new tires and plugs and she was ready
for the road! (But was I ready for her??) Having lost an XJ650 Maxim in an
accident 9 months previously, I wasn't sure I could ride a bike this size.
But I did!

LEFT SIDE: Just a few touches left to finish, like getting the emblems
painted! Now she has undergone a metamorphosis- I took all the outside
cases off and stripped off the plastic coating and cleaned up the aluminum,
painted the frame, wheels, cylinder, valve cover and exhaust pipes. I
removed that homemade iron rack (too square and too heavy and just left the
stock sissy bar in place. I have decided that with this change, she is
going to get a new name!

RIGHT SIDE: The other side, we are almost done. Hopefully the 'chameleon'
color of the flames come through in these pictures. It changes as you move
from blue to purple to reddish and a touch of gold in there. Tom's Painting
did a great job! Thank you, mailto:attom53@olympus.net%20.
